Meet Mestre Lazaro Santos - Our Founder and Capoeira Master
Mestre Lazaro comes all the way from Bahia, Brazil, where he has developed a unique teaching style in the art of Capoeira. He has dedicated his life to this martial art, starting at age 14 as a young Capoeirista under the guidance of Grande Mestre Dinho from the group, Capoeira Topazio. After years of hard work, Mestre Lazaro became a Mestre himself, embodying the wisdom passed down through generations.
His journey took him across continents, showcasing the beauty of Capoeira to audiences in Europe, Japan, and the USA. Eventually, he made his way to Central Florida where his performance group was contracted to perform at Epcot. Eventually, in 1994 he established his own Capoeira Academy in Orlando and has been teaching ever since!
Mestre Lazaro's passion for teaching people of all ages shines through in everything we do. His core mission is to help students believe in themselves, achieve their full potential, and thrive in a supportive and empowering community. This message is ingrained throughout the academy, creating a space where students are inspired to grow both on and off the mat. Today, he continues to inspire and teach students, sharing his passion for Capoeira with a growing community.
A Closer Look Into Our Classes
Incorporating Our Top 4 Fundamentals of Every Kids Martial Arts Class:
01
Warm Up
The class begins with a warm-up that includes stretches, cardio exercises, and basic movements to prepare the body for capoeira. The warm-up also helps the kids to focus and get ready for the class
02
Techniques
The instructor then demonstrates various capoeira techniques, such as kicks, punches, dodges, and sweeps, and explains their applications and meanings. The kids practice these techniques with a partner or on punching bags or pads, under the guidance and feedback of the instructor.
03
Music
The instructor also teaches the kids about the music and the instruments of capoeira, such as the berimbau, the pandeiro, the atabaque, and the agogo. The kids learn how to play the instruments, sing the songs, and follow the rhythm of the capoeira roda, which is the circle of capoeira players.
04
Roda
The class ends with a roda, which is the most fun and exciting part of capoeira. The kids take turns to play capoeira with each other, accompanied by the music and the singing. The roda is a way to practice and apply the skills learned in the class, as well as to express themselves and have fun.
